Donate to the Loren Edgar Willard Scholarship Fund.
The Loren Edgar Willard Scholarship Fund was established in May 2009 when ABC’s Executive Director, Lynn Willard’s, husband passed away. “Ed” consistently showed his support of Lynn and the youth served by ABC.
In honor of Ed, a scholarship fund was established in his name and memory to assist youth and families financially with receiving services at ABC. The scholarship fund has received income to date through memorial funds, donations at ABC’s garage sale in the fall of 2009, through the Dueling Pianos tips at our June Gifts From the Heart fundraiser, and through the generosity of The Exchange Club.
It is our hope for this scholarship fund to continue, as we must be careful about not dipping into it too much at one time. Oftentimes we must turn away youth in need of counseling because their needs may not be quite as severe as another child’s.
For example, when faced with having to choose rehabilitation for a juvenile victim or a juvenile offender, the victim has to come first. The recidivism rate for juvenile offenders is very low (only about 5-7%) especially when compared to adult offenders. Therefore it is critical that we be able to meet the needs of every child who comes to our facility for help.
Generous donors who are willing to make an annual donation to the fund or who may be willing to make monthly or quarterly donations can make this possible, thereby making a huge impact not only in the life of a child, but on the community at large.
